When children wander without direction, it is not always their fault — sometimes, society forgets to show them the way. Pankh NGO emerged as a guiding light for such children from Delhi’s underprivileged slums, helping them rise above hardship and fly toward hope.

Formed out of deep concern for the growing influence of crime among juveniles, especially in the slum pockets of Rohini and surrounding areas, Pankh NGO is not just a foundation — it’s a mission to give wings (Pankh) to those who otherwise remain grounded by poverty, neglect, and despair.

🌱 Foundation & Background

On February 18, 2008, a group of socially conscious senior citizens registered a Memorandum of Association — this marked the birth of PANKH: Patriotic Alliance for Nurturing the Knowledge Hub.

At the heart of this movement was the late Sh. Karam Chand Bhardwaj, a decorated government officer and editor, who envisioned an organization where senior citizens mentor underprivileged families and help them raise children with dignity and purpose.

The initial mission was clear: rescue slum children from a future of street crime by offering them love, education, and structure early in life.

⛰️ Challenges & Struggles

The road wasn’t easy. Juveniles in slum areas are often dismissed by society, pulled into petty crimes like snatching and theft, and seen as lost causes. But Pankh saw potential where others saw problems.

Lack of funding, minimal infrastructure, and the daunting task of convincing families to trust the system were daily hurdles. Still, with love and patience, the Pankh team stayed true to its mission — one child at a time.

📈 Growth & Milestones

Today, the once-small initiative runs a vibrant center in B-6/177, Sector-3, Rohini, Delhi, where around 25 children receive free education, meals, clothing, and toys.

The NGO also launched a unique monthly magazine titled "Rashtriya Mayur" to promote family values, creativity, and moral awareness. Their educational approach combines academics with personal development — helping kids not just learn, but dream.

💪 Current Work & Impact

1. **Education & Care:** Children aged 3–15 are provided with basic education, a crèche, and play school facilities.
2. **Nutrition & Clothing:** Meals, clean clothes, and recreational items like toys ensure their holistic well-being.
3. **Legal Awareness:** Adults in slum areas are educated about legal rights and child protection laws.
4. **Health Camps:** Regular medical camps are held in underdeveloped areas with free medicine distribution.
5. **Creative Engagement:** “Rashtriya Mayur” magazine serves as a platform for promoting societal harmony and positive values.

🌠 Vision for the Future

Pankh Foundation dreams of:

• Scaling their model across multiple slum communities in Delhi and NCR
• Building full-time education cum rehabilitation centers
• Providing skill training for young adults
• Launching digital learning tools and after-school support programs

The core vision remains — build better citizens by nurturing better children.
